If you´ve missed the first part of the article, you can click here to ¨Discover the best of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria¨.

6. Muelle deportivo/ Alcaravaneras Beach

Muelle Deportivo is independent of the main harbour. The water here is very calm, that’s why it makes it a great place for water activities such as sailing and canoeing. There are also some sailing schools and for the lateen sailing school.

On the other hand, it is the home port of the transoceanic regatta ARC (Atlantic Rally for Cruisers) which sets out every year with 200 participants from different countries.

In addition, it has a shopping and leisure centre with restaurants and several sailing-specialised shops.

Alcaravaneras Beach is the smallest one, situated right near El Muelle Deportivo. It is not recommended for baths because of the harbours. But it is perfect for beach sports or to get your skin tanned.

Since I don´t know to swim, Las Alcaravaneras is just perfect for me hahaha 🙂

7. Santa Catalina Park

One of the most emblematic parks of the city is situated in the port area. Santa Catalina Park is an example of city life. It is also home to the Science and Technological Museum (Museo Elder) and the Miller Building (which hosts cultural events).
In Santa Catalina takes place a lot of events, such as the Carnival, Theatre and Dance Festivals and so on.

8. The harbour

The Port of Las Palmas, also known as Puerto de la Luz, is a fishing, commercial, passenger and sports port of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Canary Islands. It is the most important port in the Canary Islands and the fourth most important in Spain.

In the harbour, a few minutes away from Santa Catalina Park, Poema del Mar Aquarium and Las Canteras beach, you will find the shopping centre El Muelle.

Poema del Mar Aquarium was opened to the public in 2017. It has a striking nocturnal illumination that evokes the silhouette of a shark and presents to visitors up to 35 different aquatic ecosystems and hundreds of species.

The aquarium takes its name from one of the most representative works of ¨Néstor Martin-Fernández de la Torre¨ (a Canarian modernist artist).

9. Las Canteras Beach

Las Canteras is one of the best urban beaches in Spain and has around 3 kilometres long. It has a distinguished European blue flag since 1989.

Along the beach, on the Las Canteras promenade, you have a wide offer of restaurants, hotels, and leisure.

The sand colour can change depending on the area, can be black or gold.

Concerning its facilities, it has the same as any other beach: sunbeds and umbrellas, parks for kids, showers and so on. Smoking is not allowed on the beach since 2017.

Therefore, it is accessible for people with reduced mobility and, they can even reach the sea.

Here are some of the wonders you will find along the beach from end to end (from the Auditorium until La Puntilla):

Alfredo Kraus Auditorium

Alfredo Kraus building is an auditorium, but also a Congress Hall named by the famous Canarian tenor, Alfredo Kraus. It is said that he was one of the best in Spain. The Auditorium hosts music and film festivals, congresses, competitions, exhibitions and so on.

La Cícer Beach

If you start walking from the Auditorium, the first area you´ll find from Las Canteras is La Cícer. This one is perfect for surf and bodyboard lovers.

Peña La Vieja

The next one got its name from an outstanding rock called Peña La Vieja. Here, the reef reaches the shore so, when the tide is low is not good for swimming. I must mention that here, you will also find one of the best artisan ice-cream parlours from the island. The place is called Peña La Vieja. It is almost impossible to miss it while walking along the Paseo de Las Canteras because there is always a queue.

Playa Chica

It is located in front of La BarraLa Barra (the barrier) is a reef that goes through half of Las Canteras. Thanks to it, there are some parts of the beach where the ocean is calm. Usually, when the tide is low, people swim until they reach it. If the water is calm, you can even snorkel here.

Playa Grande (Big Beach)

It is the largest area of Las Canteras and is ideal for swimming, diving and snorkelling.

La Puntilla

After passing this one, we reach the end of Las Canteras, a fishing area. Here, you´ll see the boats of the fishermen.

10. El Confital

El Confital and its bay are located nearby the neighbourhoods La Isleta and Las Coloradas and, it is accessible by foot and by car.

It´s a natural extension of Las Canteras Beach and a protected environment. If you want to feel like a local, this is the best place to be in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

When you reach near the El Confital, there is a metal promenade from where you´ll have a beautiful view of the beach.

On the other hand, the water here is also preferred by surfers and bodyboarding lovers. Actually, on this place have been held several surf world championships.
If you like to practice trail running, the mountains of El Confital are perfect for it.

Not all El Confital can be visited because some of it is Military Zone.
